MORE than 120 children and young people with special needs and disabilities enjoyed a day full of fun and festivities at a farm park opened just for them.

The youngsters, aged from two to 20, visited Farmer Palmers Farm Park at Organford on Monday, while it was closed to the general public, for an annual visit organised by Poole Short Breaks and Artz+, Sportz+.

As part of a jam-packed day they made a giant papier-mâché model of Olaf, the snowman from Disney’s hit movie Frozen, as well as visiting Santa in his grotto, and petting and feeding the animals.

One of the organisers, Angela Bowran, short breaks and sessional work coordinator at Borough of Poole, said: “It has been fantastic. Parents and children didn't have to worry – everybody understands and they can just feel relaxed. So many parents have come up and told me what a fantastic day they’ve had.

“They’ve held the guinea pigs, had trotter time with the pigs, groomed the ponies, milked the cows and the children really enjoyed hand feeding the lambs. They’ve also had tractor trailer rides, and of course visited Santa in his grotto.

“It’s been super. There’s been a lovely Christmassy atmosphere for all our families.”

Artz+, Sportz+ and Poole Short Breaks provide workshops and activities throughout the year for children and young people who have physical or learning disabilities, supporting families and giving parents a chance for a short break.
