Wondering what to watch on the box this Christmas? here's our round-up of seven things not to miss over the festive season...
1) Downton Abbey delivers its traditional Christmas special in the highly-anticipated series five finale. It’s the early autumn of 1924 and Rose’s father-in-law, Lord Sinderby, has rented Brancaster Castle in Northumberland and invited the Crawleys to a grouse-shooting party. However, the Sinderby’s butler, Stowell has an axe to grind and a scandalous secret threatens to derail the holiday. Christmas Day, 9pm, ITV1
2) Another traditional Christmas offering is the Doctor Who special. Last Christmas sees the Doctor and Santa, along with Clara Oswald, thrown together in one of the Time Lord’s most incredible adventures yet. Christmas Day, 6.15pm, BBC One
3) For The Love of Dogs At Christmas features Paul O’Grady visiting Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in this one-hour special. As well as the iconic Battersea London site, Paul also brings some Christmas spirit to dogs from the Old Windsor and Brands Hatch sites. Christmas Day, 5.50pm, ITV1
4) The Very Christmassy Christmas Show sees comedian Michael McIntyre doing what he does best – putting Christmas under his merry microscope: from the presents and the decorations, to the cracker jokes and the family arguments. Christmas Day, 10.40pm, BBC One
5) Chummy and Trixie are making a welcome return to our screens this Christmas, helping with the Sunday School Christmas Concert in Call the Midwife. Actress Vanessa Redgrave will appear as the mature Jennifer Worth on screen for the first time during the Christmas special.

6) Queen and Adam Lambert are performing a live concert on New Year’s Eve. The gig will take place in Central Hall Westminster, a Methodist church opposite Westminster Abbey. When Big Ben strikes midnight, the BBC can broadcast the fireworks that take place along the Thames.

7) Esio Trot is the new BBC One adaptation of the Roald Dahl children’s classic, starring Dame Judi Dench and Dustin Hoffman. Published in 1990, Esio Trot tells the tale of Mr Hoppy (Hoffman), a kind but shy gentleman. New Year’s Day, 6.30pm, BBC One
