FATHER Christmas and his elves dropped into Ringwood for the start of the town’s festive season, which also featured a festive market and a flurry of snow on Saturday.
The Rock Choir entertained the several hundred-strong crowd before Santa helped the town mayor, Cllr Barbara Woodifield, flick the all-important switch.
There were attractions all day before the lantern parade from The Furlong Centre to the marketplace ahead of the finale.
More than 60 stall-holders filled the streets, along with fair rides and entertainers.
The town has been provided with all-new lights for this year, with around 30 businesses raising £8,000 to support the town council in purchasing the lights, and a plaque has been placed near each item purchased to identify the sponsor.
The event was arranged by the town council for local residents and to support businesses in the town.
