THE sound of Christmas carols instead of football chants rang out through the Vitality Stadium during a festive service for fans.

Over 1,000 Cherries supporters joined Eddie Howe, Jeff Mostyn and the first team players for the club’s annual community Christmas carol concert.

The special event was held in the Vitality Stadium’s Main Stand on Tuesday evening, with the likes of captain Simon Francis and midfielder Andrew Surman join singing a host of festive favourites.

It aimed to allow fans and the team at AFC Bournemouth to kick off the festive season in style.

Hundreds of people of all ages donned knitted Christmas jumpers, red and black scarves, matching coats, and one person even wore a hat in the shape of a Santa beard.

Jeff Mostyn, chairman of AFC Bournemouth, thanked everybody who attended the event before adding: “Once again, the event was a huge success and it was wonderful to see so many people singing their hearts out.

“The community is so important to this football club and it is a pleasure to be able to open the doors of the stadium, not just on a matchday, to bring everyone together.

“Christmas is such a special time of year but can also be very difficult for some. With that in mind, I would like to thank those who donated goods to the local food banks on their way into the service because that will provide support to a number of people in the area who are not as fortunate as ourselves.”

Club chaplain, Andy Rimmer, led the service, which featured a range of hymns and Christmas songs with the music being provided by Winton Salvation Army Band.

Songs were also performed by the Do You Hear The People Sing Choir, as well as children from four local junior schools.

These included St. James’ Church of England Primary Academy, St Thomas Garnet’s School, St Clement’s and St John’s Church of England Infant School and Bethany Church of England Junior School.

AFC Bournemouth celebrated a 4 - nil win against Liverpool on Sunday and will be heading to Burnley on Saturday.
