THEY'VE done it before and now the Military Wives Choir hopes to step up to the challenge of making the Christmas number one spot again with their new single.

This year the choir has recorded their version of The Proclaimers "500 Miles" to raise vital funds for the military charity, Walking With The Wounded.

One of the singers is 35-year-old Catherine Redfern from Poole, who is currently based in north Devon, with her husband, Lydon and their two young children.

She said: "My husband is in the Royal Marines and although our home is back in Dorset, we are currently posted to Chivenor.

"However all our family and friends are still in Poole and Bournemouth so I am hoping that Echo readers will enjoy our single."

The single was launched on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning and has been tipped to make the coveted number one slot in the national charts.

Catherine explained: "I wanted to do something for myself as it can be a bit lonely when your husband is away so I joined the choir last January.

"I have always loved music although I used to play an instrument rather than sing. I used to be in the Dorset Wind Orchestra so this has been a whole new experience."

All proceeds are going to Walking with the Wounded to raise vital funds for homeless veterans and the Military Wives Choirs Foundation.

"It seemed an appropriate song for the Walking Wounded as the campaign is all about bringing wounded soldiers back to their families for Christmas," said Catherine.

"We made it so more more heartfelt. We were all in tears when we heard the finished version."

Catherine adds: "It has been an amazing experience. To get the number one slot would make Christmas extra special."
