Twelfth night has come and gone but if you're still hanging onto a real Christmas tree, there are many ways to recycle it.

Bournemouth residents can make use of a real Christmas tree recycling service provided by Bournemouth Borough Council running from January 11 to 22.

People will need to leave the tree at the edge of their property from 5am to 8pm on the opposite week to their normal recycling collection. Those who miss the collection can take their real Christmas tree to Millhams Community Recycling Centre (BH11 9LQ).

The charity Diverse Abilities will be collecting Christmas trees in return for a £5 donation to the cause on January 9 and 10.

Volunteers will be collecting trees from Blandford, Weymouth, Bournemouth, Poole, Wimborne, Ferndown and Christchurch.

Bookings need be made before 11.59pm on Thursday, January 7.

For more information, go to Diverseabilities.org.uk.

Poole residents can recycle their Christmas trees at Upton Country Park.

Trees are chipped on site and used to maintain the paths around the park, significantly reducing the cost and environmental impact of transporting them. Trees can be deposited at the site from December 27 up until January 10.

Christchurch, North Dorset, East Dorset and Purbeck residents can put their tree next to their rubbish bin on the first collection after 6 January. However, trees collected with rubbish won't be composted.

Real Christmas trees can be taken to your nearest household recycling centre and placed in the garden waste container for composting, free of charge.
