Forget Oxford Street Christmas lights. The residents of Runton Road in Branksome are set to switch on their famous illuminations this weekend.

The Poole cul-de-sac will be lit up once again for charity between 5 and 6pm on Saturday.

The popular annual event, now in its 27th year, attracts hundreds of people and in 2012 five million people witnessed the big switch on when the street was featured on BBC's The One Show.

The dazzling display can be seen from half-a-mile away and attracts a steady stream of visitors, particularly on Christmas Eve, who generously put money in collection boxes outside the houses.

Forest Holme Hospice and Julia's House will benefit from this year's spectacular light show.

Money raised will also help seven-year-old Mason White who has Epidermolysis Bullosa and Olly Reid who has severe cerebral palsy and is in need of a new sensory hut.

Last year residents raised an incredible £8,500 for charity.

Those wanting to see the lights are asked to park away from Runton Road and to walk up to see the lights. They are also asked to make sure they are not blocking access to driveways.

The lights will be switched on every night until January 6.
