VISITORS to historic Corfe Castle are in for a treat this December - they'll be able to follow a special route through the ancient ruins bathed in atmospheric light.

Last year the castle was lit up by Christmas lights for the first time in its 1,000-year history.

The difference for 2015 is that this time around visitors will be able to walk among the illuminated Norman ruins, right into the heart of the castle.

National Trust spokesman Jon Bish said: "Corfe Castle comes to life this Christmas with magical lighting effects guaranteed to bring a glow your cheeks.

"Flames dance from medieval beacons scattered around the castle grounds and braziers add warmth and intimacy. Stylish contemporary lanterns pick out intriguing spaces with candle light."

Visitors will also be able to share their special wishes or memories at one of six wish Christmas trees lining the gatehouse bridge.

The Castle View visitor centre will also be decorated for the season and is even set to host festive chocolate treat demonstrations. There will be tasty winter warmers in the tea-rooms and a range of festive goodies in the shop.

Meanwhile, Corfe Castle Chamber of Trade chairman Steve Clarke says its not all about the castle - the village will be bathed in its own festive lights throughout December as well.

Mr Clarke said: Corfe Castle village is a wonderful place at any time of the year, but the lights our festivities committee put up are quite special. We want more people to visit and enjoy the atmosphere.

"Most of our gift shops offer gifts you can't get elsewhere and will delight those who receive them."

The village will host Yuletide events every Saturday, throughout December, until Christmas Day.

In Christmas Festive Glow takes place from December 4 until to January 3.
