Five hundred runners got in the Christmas spirit early by donning ‘antlers’ and completing the RNLI’s fundraising Reindeer Run at the weekend.

This event, back by popular demand at Moors Valley Country Park, was one of five similar Reindeer Run’s taking place across the UK, and organisers hope thousands of pounds will be raised for the maritime rescue charity.

The last time Moors Valley hosted the fun run, in 2012, around £15,000 was raised for the RNLI.

Sunday’s (Nov 30) run, for which everyone taking part received a free t-shirt and set of antlers, included a 10km and a 5km course.

Ali Murphy, RNLI supporter care manager, said: “All of the local branches of the RNLI locally have got together to help organise this and marshal it. It is really great to see the whole community getting together to raise money to save lives at sea.

“So many people have put their time into this, so I’d like to say a huge thank you to them and Moors Valley for letting us hold it here.

“For me, it is just about seeing people come together, and it is definitely going to happen again next year, we have already made that decision.”

Meanwhile, RNLI area manager Selina Taylor stressed: “The whole event has been run by a team of volunteers. There are lots of ways to support the RNLI and giving your time is just as important as donating money.”
