WESTOVER Nissan in Wallisdown Road, Bournemouth is urging customers who wish to take advantage of the vehicle scrappage scheme to do so sooner rather than later.
“Based on the phenomenal uptake and level of ongoing interest, there is a real consensus in our industry that the government’s ‘scrappage pot’ will run out several months before its original estimated end date,” said Mike Boyd, Westover director.
“The scheme was originally intended to run until around February next year, but some commentators believe the money allocated to scrappage will have been spent by the end of September.
“Consequently, we’re advising anyone who’s interested in scrapping their car for a new one to do so during the summer months.
“Our ‘scrappage best-sellers’ are the ever-popular British-built Micra and Note, which have accounted for nearly 80 per cent of our sales under the scheme to date. Interestingly, though, we’ve had very few Nissans coming back in to be scrapped – thanks to their reliability, people tend to hang onto them!”
