A DAY devoted to ‘mumpreneurs’ will offer mothers practical training and inspiration to grow their businesses.

The event next month will feature successful local businesswomen including Barbara Cox from BNC Nutrition and chef Sarah Ali Choudhury.

The line-up for the event, at Boscombe’s Urban Reef restaurant on Thursday, April 19, also features Sarah Veakins from GetSet For Growth, Tara Vachell from Iceni Wellbeing, Laceys Solicitors and Ildiko Scurr from Life Returning.

The event has been organized by Erin Thomas Wong, who created the Making Mumpreneurs online community for mothers starting and running businesses around family life.

She has been running her own business around her family life for the past decade while raising two boys.

Three in five professional women go back to lower-skilled or lower-paid jobs after their career break, according to research by PwC. The phenomenon has been credited with motivating a wave of mothers to start their own businesses.

Erin Thomas Wong said: “Since moving to Bournemouth almost two years ago I have connected with many entrepreneurial mums and have been supporting them with their businesses.

“This special one-day event offers these women the opportunity for some blue sky thinking by the beach while they learn invaluable skills to help them grow their businesses”

Laceys Solicitors is sponsoring the day and offering advice on how to protect a business.

The firm said: “Laceys Solicitors are strong advocates for getting involved in local initiatives that support new business growth in our area and are delighted to be sponsoring the first Mumpreneur Momentum Day.

“We are looking forward to building a successful partnership to help provide female entrepreneurs with the tools to develop and build dynamic and profitable businesses.”

The event is also being supported by Silicon South, the not-for-profit dedicated to accelerating the digital economy in Dorset. It is offering fully-funded places for women running digital businesses in the county. For information on those places, contact megan.bagnall@siliconsouth.org.uk

Early bird tickets are £49 and need to be booked before March 23.
