A PAIR of Polish paint importers have said the uncertainty over Brexit will not stop them from making their new business a success.

Dariusz Kosek and Lukasz Porebski from Skawina near Krakow, Poland, arrived in the UK in May last year.

The pair came to Dorset to set-up an import and distributorship for Poland’s major aerosol paint manufacturer Deco Color.

But a month after their arrival their new business, POKO Limited, was thrown into uncertainty following the EU referendum decision.

However Darius, a former member of the Polish army, and Lukasz, who worked as the export sales manager for Deco Color, said they are not concerned about the UK’s decision to leave the EU and the impact that may or may not have on them and their business.

“We will find a way to trade however Brexit changes things,” said Lukasz, who set up the business in Ferndown.

“We arrived here in the UK with nothing so every sale is a step forward.

“Now we hope to emulate the success that Deco Color has enjoyed through its distribution in other countries, especially in Germany, which has proved to be a successful market.

“We are already self-sufficient and contribute to the British economy through tax and national insurance.

“It has been hard work and Dariusz also had another full-time job to help support us and the business and make sure ends meet.”

The duo are now looking for a larger storage unit - saying that they are already beginning to outgrow the store they have in Martin’s Drive, Ferndown.

They have also created a website for the business and now sell selected products on eBay and Amazon.

According to Dariusz, on some days they are so busy they have to get their girlfriends to come in and help out.

POKO Limited sells a range of products and paints for decoration, art, craft, DIY, home and garden maintenance, surveying as well as for the automotive industry and heavy engineering.

“I hope that we can gain a strong market share by offering an alternative range of products,” added Lukasz.

“We are used to the difficulties that come with selling no matter which country we are in. But if there is a need, we have the product to help. It is that simple and whatever happens with Brexit that will not change.”
