IKEA has moved to quash rumours of a click and collect store opening in Poole.

The Daily Echo had been contacted by a number of sources suggesting the Swedish furniture chain was primed to move into the town centre with one of their new 'mini stores'.

Speculation was rife the company might be looking at the Argos store in the Dolphin Centre.

However, an IKEA spokesman confirmed: "We are not currently considering an order and collection point store in Poole."

But the spokesman added: "In the ever changing, fast-paced retail environment we want to provide our customers with a more simple, convenient and enjoyable shopping experience both online and in-store.

"As such, we are reviewing our expansion strategy on an ongoing basis.

"This includes the rebuilding and adaptation of our stores to better serve their local customers, developing our multi-channel offer, choosing new IKEA locations and trialling new store formats."

IKEA operates stores in more than 390 locations across Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Africa and Oceania.

It is one of the world's largest furniture retailers, and has made billions by selling ready-to-assemble products.

Its founder, Ingvar Kamprad, is reportedly one of the ten richest people in the world.
