IT’S been awards season, with business people everywhere donning ball gowns or dinner suits in the hope of a trophy.

A host of Dorset and New Forest businesses have come away with prizes from the autumn crop of ceremonies.

* Several local suppliers won trophies at the regional Wedding Industry Awards in Bristol.

They were: Wedding planners and venue managers Bellissimo, Bournemouth; wedding transport company Dorset Dubhire, Wimborne; videographer Final Cut Film Company, Fordingbridge; caterer Sausage and Pear; and acoustic duo Evertide, Poole. All head to the national finals in London on January 12.

* Ringwood's Churchill Retirement Living is the first retirement living specialist to be named overall Housebuilder of the Year at the What House? Awards.

Churchill also took gold for Best Medium Housebuilder and silver for Best Retirement Development.

Spencer McCarthy, co-founder with brother Clinton, said: “Like most housebuilders we’ve faced plenty of challenges this year, but we’ve worked hard as a team to achieve continued growth and success.”

* South East Dorset Voluntary Quality Bus Partnership was named Partnership of the Year at the Routeone Awards at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham. The award recognises operators and councils who work together.

* Wareham-based special effects company The Twins FX scooped three trophies at the Technical Theatre Awards.

The business, run by identical twins Gary and Paul Hardy-Brown, creates effects and illusions for live productions.

They took the PLASA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Automation and the prizes for Outstanding Achievement in Scenic Artistry and Outstanding Achievement in Props.

* Poole-based family business Towncourt Homes won Best Residential Development at the Telegraph’s International Property Awards for Moondance, three apartments in Sandbanks.

These were the first apartments to be built in the location for more than 15 years and could be the last because of new flood legislation.

* Bournemouth planning and design consultancy Terence O’Rourke won Best Use of IT in a Construction Project at the Construction Computing Awards at the BMA,London, for its work on Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre.

* Ferndown-based Superior, which makes O-rings and seals, won the regional Developing People Award at the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards and will compete for the national title. Katie Bodman, head of Superior’s training academy, said: “This award is testament to our hard working and dedicated team, and we are delighted to have won.”

* Poole’s VOIP Unlimited won the Extra Mile title at the Broadband Service Quality Awards after providing Kimmeridge with internet to serve the museum holding the Etches Collection fossils.

* Two Dorset businesses, Dayfold and WeAre778, won at the Digital Printer Awards at the Marriott London.

Verwood print company Dayfold and Bournemouth design and marketing agency WeAre778 won the Finishing Award for a brochure for Jigsaw Interior Architecture.

Mark Smith, sales director at Dayfold, said: “The Jigsaw brochure was a perfect opportunity to work with a beautiful piece of design and prove the worth of an excellent designer/printer relationship.”

* Bournemouth-based children’s food brand Organix won the silver award for Best Baby Food Range in the Mother and Baby Awards 2017 at the Westminster Park Plaza in London, its corn puffs finger food range, which include carrot sticks, sweetcorn rings, cheese stars, red pepper hearts and tomato slices.

* The Montagu Arms Hotel in Beaulieu won three awards in a week.

Its Terrace Restaurant was named Best Hotel Restaurant at the Hampshire Life Food and Drink Awards, ahead of two other New Forest establishments, Cambium at Careys Manor Hotel and Beresford’s at Balmer Lawn.

It also won gold for Small and Boutique Hotel of the Year at the Beautiful South Awards, while the Terrace won silver in the Bistro and Restaurant and its pub, Monty’s Inn, was highly commended as Tourism Pub of the Year.

* Highcliffe family business Hoburne Holidays won bronze for Best UK Holiday Parks Operator at the British Travel Awards.

MD Rod Tucker said: “We can’t thank everyone enough for taking the time to vote for us.”

* Renault Trucks dealer and distributor Sparks Commercial Services won the Aftersales, Workshop and Maintenance Provider title at the Commercial Motor Dealer Awards at Heythrop Park Hotel, Oxfordshire. Its five sites include Kinson Pottery Industrial Estate in Parkstone.

* South West Trains won four prizes for reliability in the Golden Spanner Awards from Modern Railways magazine. Its Class 444s, which run from London to Weymouth, were best new generation electrical multiple unit.

* New Milton's Porvair Filtration Group was named Best Performing Supplier at aerospace and defence supply chain provider Pattonair’s supplier conference. Porvair was singled out for “operationally outperforming all other vendors in regards to on time delivery and quality”.

* Inspire, of Lower Parkstone, was Independent Firm of the Year for Wales and the South West at the British Accountancy Awards.

Founder and MD Warren Munson said: “We’ve had a fantastic 12 months developing our focus on entrepreneurial businesses and are therefore really proud to receive this award.”

* Poole-based PW Payroll Solutions lifted the trophy for bureau/service providers at the 2016 Payroll Awards.

Mandy Gardiner, head of payroll services, received the award in front of 600 fellow payroll, human resources and finance professionals at the Hilton London Bankside.

Founded more than 26 years ago, the business outsourced payroll services to over 450 clients and is owned by PKF Francis Clark.

* Bournemouth pub the Goat and Tricycle won silver in the Managed House Perfect Pint title at the Best of the Best Awards held by brewery and pub operator Wadworth.

* Several Dorset businesses are among the 103 South West representatives in the national VisitEngland Awards, to be given out at the Lansdown Suite of Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol on February 2.

* Hair and beauty salon owner the Francesco Group has announced the winners of its Trainee of the Year competition.

Sophia Plummer of Francesco Group Bournemouth won first place in the second year category and Tom Powell of Francesco Group Westbourne was first among the third years.

* Shorefield Holidays rewarded its own employees at an awards ceremony at Shorefield Country Park, Milford-on-Sea.

Individuals and teams from all six of the company’s holiday and touring park were saluted in categories including Rising Star, Customer Focus, Unsung Hero and Team of the Year.

A special mention also went to the inaugural members of the Shorefield Academy, created to highlight the company’s leaders of the future.

* The Green PEA (Positive Environmental Action) scheme, which was started in Poole to reduce businesses’ carbon emissions, has been highly commended in the Energy Management Association Awards.

Green PEA is a certification scheme which provides companies with a simple review of their energy costs and offers recommendations for saving money.

* Coleman Insurance Brokers in Poole has again been named among the UK Top 100 Independent Brokers by Insurance Age magazine.

* The House of Colour Awards, held by the image consultancy and personal stylists, saw Sandra Attrill, of Ashley Heath, Ringwood, named Star Stylist for the eighth year running.

She said: “I love working as a colour and personal stylist because I want to be able to run my own franchise whilst doing something which can really transform people’s lives.”
