AWARDS ceremonies are often known for the winners’ rambling and emotional thank-you speeches – but one local boss has been saluted for keeping it short.

As previously reported, Westbourne-based 3 Sided Cube beat competition from around the world to scoop a Webby Award for the best health app.

The ceremony in New York saw winners restricted to speeches of five words – and the Hollywood Reporter put the speech by 3 Sided Cube’s MD Duncan Cooke at the top of its list of the best.

Second on the list was actress, model and businesswoman Jessica Alba.

3 Sided Cube won its award for creating the American Red Cross blood donor app.

It aimed to encourage people to make and keep blood donor appointments – and the charity says 597,864 lives have been saved by donations made via the app.

Mr Cooke’s speech ran: “Ordinary people can be heroes.”

He said later: “The Webbys was one of those pinch yourselves moments for the Cube team and I, being in a room with the biggest names on the internet, from the people behind Making a Murderer, Kim Kardashian, Spotify and Nasa to the campaign for BlackLivesMatter.

“What made it even sweeter was winning it for an app that has such an impact in helping to save lives in the US. It’s another massive compliment to find ourselves at the top of the Hollywood Reporter’s top 10 speeches list, but in all honesty, five words was almost too many when the app speaks such volumes itself.”
