A SHOWROOM condition 1962 Mercedes that has not been on the road for 36 years will be the star of a Poole auction.

If the silver 190SL reaches its estimate of almost £90,000, it will be the most expensive vehicle ever sold by South Western Vehicle Auctions in Poole.

The previous top price was £34,000 paid for an Aston Martin Lagonda.

The Mercedes’ previous owner died in the early 1990s and passed it to her stepson, who spent a large sum of money renovating it. The work was done by Dorset expert Terry Van’der’zee.

Its current owner in Poole bought it in 2011 and had it stripped to bare metal, re-sprayed and re-upholstered in red leather.

The car has 88,623 miles on the clock.

The auction also features a silver 1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster which was restored 10 years ago and is expected to attract bids of more than £65,000.

The auction takes place on Friday, October 31 at 11am.
