DORSET staff at the retailer Phones 4u are waiting to hear whether latest developments will mean saving some jobs.

Vodafone and EE – who had been blamed for the collapse of the high street phone shop – have expressed an interest in acquiring parts of the business.

Administrator PwC revealed yesterday that it had secured enough cash to pay staff for another day but could lay off workers and shut down parts of the business from today.

The company’s 5,600 jobs are in jeopardy while all its stores remain closed, including two in Bournemouth and branches in Poole and Christchurch.

Vodafone and EE had both cut their ties with the retailer and had been slated as “callous” by John Caudwell, who set up the company in 1980s.

But it emerged yesterday that EE could buy some of Phones 4u’s 550 stores and that both EE and Vodafone were interested in the company’s stock of handsets.

Dixons Carphone is also in talks to offer jobs to the 800 Phones 4u staff who work in concessions in its stores.
