Competition for last year’s Momentum Cycle Challenge was fierce with over 650 participants from Bourne-mouth businesses taking part; now the town’s biggest cycle challenge is set to return.

The fun, free competition sees workplaces compete to see who can encourage the most people to ride a bike.

Anyone can take part and it can make a big change to the health and happiness of a workforce. Already gearing up is the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital (RBCH). Last year, RBCH encouraged departments to compete, which ended in three departments taking first, second and third place in one of the size categories last year.

Steven Fall, Challenge Cham-pion for RBCH said: “Last year proved a big success. “During the three weeks we encouraged over 100 employees to cycle at least once, as well as running various events including ‘Dr Bike’ sessions.

“We’re really looking forward to this year’s Challenge and we hope to hold more events during the three weeks to help new cyclists get on their way.”

Businesses can compete in one of six categories, depending on their size, which means everyone can win some great prizes.

Councillor Michael Filer, Cabinet Member for Transport said: “The Challenge is a great initiative. Cycling is a healthy activity, which can help reduce stress levels and increase productivity in the workforce.”

Taking part is easy, once registered, simply encourage staff to register and log their rides at lovetoride.net/momentum The team with the highest participation in their category wins the Challenge. There are plenty of prizes up for grabs throughout the competition including Lush gift boxes and a tour of Bournemouth Brewery. And the top three teams from each category will receive a framed certificate, showing your organisation’s commitment to sustainable travel.

Bournemouth Borough Council is working with Challenge for Change to deliver the Momentum Cycle Challenge.
