Craig Sutherland Paterson 60, died at home on 21 March 2006 in Cardiff, California following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born on 19 October 1945 in Paisley, Scotland to the late Matthew Sutherland Paterson and Annie Parker Scott Paterson. Craig received his National Diploma from Carlisle Art College in 1963 and then moved to Bournemouth. He married Nevia Sossa in 1969. The marriage ended in divorce. With a passion for graphic design since a young boy, Craig started his own agency, CPA Graphics & Design in 1981, which he operated for 23 years. He married his long-term partner, Karen Zahn in 1998 and moved to California in 1999.

Craig's wit, charm and gentle nature endeared him to all. He was a devoted husband, understanding and supportive father and stepfather and loyal friend. He wanted to be remembered for always trying to help - to lend a hand to family and friends whenever one was needed. In recent years he developed a passion for designing and building furniture. He loved golf, Hawaiian beaches, aerospace museums, Disneyland and spending quiet time with family and friends. He was a fan of designer Charles Rennie MacIntosh and the silly Inspector Clouseau. He lived his life with humor, courage and dignity, which touched many during his long illness.

Craig is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Paterson; his daughter, Lara Simpson and her husband, Perry of London; son, Christian Paterson and partner Gemma Hammond of Bournemouth; and stepson, Daniel Neukomm of California.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held in Bournemouth in April. Details will be announced. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org).
