WIMBORNE AC capped a history-making campaign by celebrating their first win in the South West League at their presentation evening.

Chairman Jason Hall also revealed they had provided one-third of athletes from the county who had attended the English Schools Championship.

Bethan Burley and Charlotte Ayton were difficult to separate for the female outstanding performance of the year so were jointly awarded the trophy.

The male outstanding performance was won by Piers Copeland’s display in the Senior Indoor Championship.

The age group trophies were claimed at under-11 level by Isla Dalton and Harry Bunting. Ella Dalton and Tobias Blundell took the spoils in the under-13s.

Abbie Lovering and Joe Goodwin were the under-15 winners and Amy Mercer and Curtis Ormerod-Taylor were awarded the under-17 accolades.

Hannah Winton and Dave Pearson scooped the senior prizes.

Trophies were claimed by Joey Kelliher and Lovering in the middle distance events and Jamie Newnham in the sprints. Burley took the hurdles trophy and just missed out to Pearson for the multi-events prize.

Ayton retained the long jump crown and Caitlyn Hooper sealed the triple jump award.

Goodwin and Abi White took the male and female throwing spoils, while Trudi Carter was recognised for her achievement in the pole vault.

The South West League squad won best team and Paul Hine picked up a prize for the best support role.

Tristan Green was judged best newcomer and Holly Nixon won the Clare Bailey trophy in recognition of her dedication to distance running.

Lorraine Winton was named coach of the year, while the Les Phillips Trophy for major contribution was won by Richard Nunn.

Meanwhile, Bethan Burley has accepted a 100 per cent scholarship to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, which will start in January 2019.

She finished runner-up in the senior girls’ heptathlon at the ESAA Combined Events finals and has also been invited on to the Welsh Athletics Commonwealth Games Futures programme. She also ran sixth for Dorset Schools at the ESAA Championships 400m hurdles final.
