AFC Bournemouth: Assistant boss Jason Tindall quiet on Andrew Surman rumours

JASON Tindall remained tight-lipped on Cherries’ transfer plans but admitted he was not surprised at rumours linking the Dean Court side with a move for Andrew Surman.

Reports linking Cherries with a swoop for the Norwich midfielder resurfaced at the weekend off the back of his loan stint on the south coast last season.

Tindall told the Daily Echo: “I’m sure there’s always going to be rumours linking us with players like Andrew Surman, particularly because he was here last year and he did well for us.

“He’s doing really well at Norwich at the minute but if there are rumours then they are only rumours. Until you sign someone, it’s a different matter.

“We can’t talk about anyone else’s players. All I can tell you is that when Andrew Surman was here last year he did incredibly well for the team and he’s a good player.”

Johannesburg-born Surman made 39 appearances for Cherries last term and the Daily Echo predicted in April that the 27-year-old was likely to be top of Howe’s summer wish list.

The ex-Southampton man, who was not part of the Norwich squad for Saturday’s 3-0 win over Watford, has a year left to run on his current deal and would probably command a fee of around £500,000 if the Canaries were prepared to sell.

Cherries clash with visitors Nottingham Forest tomorrow night (7.45pm), a side who Tindall feels will be in the promotion shake-up come the end of the Championship campaign.

The City Ground outfit recruited striker Britt Assombalonga and winger Michail Antonio for around £7million earlier this month and are unbeaten in two league outings so far.

“Nottingham Forest are one of the bigger sides in the division and they are going to be there or thereabouts,” said Tindall.

“We are well aware of their strengths. They have brought in some good players but I’m sure they will look at us as a good team as well.

“Hopefully we can put on a really good performance for the fans and come away with three points.”

Tindall reported no new injury worries ahead of tomorrow's game.

Agree with you, a good player who improved as the season went on but not convinced we need him. I'd sooner some back-up for Yann!!!

LETS swop Arter for Surman, . . . We seem to be under threat of going down to ten men when Harry Arter is in the team. . . It amazed me that he did not get booked on Saturday on a few occasions. . . . . We were winning 1-0 with 2 minutes to go and the ref said it was our throw in. . . A Brentford player had grabbed the ball and tried to bluff the linesman that it was a Brentford throw in. . . . . . Arter in one of his angry tantrums squared up to the chap and tried to grab the ball . . . . . With 2 minutes to go and winning 1-0 what is the hurry to continue. . . If Brentford want to waste the last 2 minutes that was fine by me. . . .

Understand what you're saying, but we not only lost Surman, but Hughes also. So yes, there is room for one more midfielder.....

Yeah he may act the hard man but he got bullied by Joey Barton at QPR last season. A good player though who I'd keep at the club

I have to agree with some of the posts Arter is a good player but he is a liability I also think we have too many midfielders at the club already. The best opinion is that we need another striker in the mould of Yann .

Score, score, score, is that all some of you can see in players?? We were scoring for fun with Surman IN the team. Yes he missed some chances, but he's the type of player who's passes open defences up, something sorely lacking Saturday, until Ryan skipped down the wing and put a great ball in for Junior. Yes, sign him up!!

I agree with most posts that surman was an integral part of what we achieved last season & held down his position well & like previous posts have mentioned we also lost hughes who may not of featured much but it was another body in the team & abit more depth to the team so i think another center mid would be useful & as much as i was delighted with the signing of gosling i feel he's not impressed so far & had a slow pre season fitting into eddies plans,I do feel people have been unfair on poor arter tho because i think he is what we need in the middle to win the ball back & be abit careless with challenges so he can give the oppositions like brentford, leeds & the rest of the pub sides that cant play football & just kick seven bells out of you abit of a warning that it will come straight back at you,I would be very happy to see another forward aswell especially if it was an out & out forward because again i feel pitman is a good league 1 player but im not convinced he can cut it week in week out in the championship but would be nice to see him get a few games on the trot to show what he can do this season & prove his quality can be produced at championship level

If we can afford him, then let's have him! Andrew will put a cat amongst the pigeons. EH needs all players to fire up when they hit the pitch and AS became such an integral part of last season that his return will keep everyone on their toes.

CZs (Comfort zones) are a huge problem in any team where the established team is picked week in week out. Clearly competition is required in every position. This will do it. Hey and remember we can get injuries that wreck our squad in nano-seconds. So this story makes sense?

Another striker? Agreed but who? They are as rare as hen's teeth...

i'd rather have collinson for free, than pay 500k for surman who's contract is up in 9 months. Collinson is a few years younger than Surman too, but Howe knows best so i will welcome any addition he chooses to bring in. What's with the Arter bashing??? He's an excellent player, IMO better than Surman, but YES makes wreckless and pointless challenges sometimes (qpr last season etc).
I think we need competition for Camp in goal, because although everyone at the club is hailing flahaven with praise, he makes me nervous when he plays.
I don't think we need another striker yet, give pitman and rantie a chance to prove themselves if yann or wilson gets injured.
