BOSS Graham Kemp last night watched Hamworthy United open their win account at the third time of asking before insisting he had not panicked at their indifferent start.
Tom Price’s double, coupled with goals from Karl Yelland, Martin Warren and Russell Cook, saw Hammers ease to a 5-0 win over Wessex Premier rivals Bemerton Heath.
Victory at Western Way came hot on the heels of a creditable 1-1 draw with title favourites Winchester City – which had followed successive defeats by Horndean and Brockenhurst.
Kemp told the Daily Echo: “Naturally, there are concerns when you don’t win for a couple of games at the start of the season. You look in the changing room and think you have a good squad but it doesn’t quite happen for you. But there have already been some strange results.
“For the first five or six games, managers might understandably not know their best formation or their best team. You have injuries because you are playing so many games in a short space of time, the pitches are hard and it is the holiday season. You don’t panic in the first month of the season.”
Kemp added: “Everyone played well against Bemerton. If it hadn’t been for Max Frampton (the Bemerton goalkeeper) and the woodwork, it probably would have been eight or nine.”
Hammers: Ackerman, Penny, Legg, Cole (Hester, 60), Donaghy, Price, Osborne (Cook, 60), Yelland, Hubbard, Blackburn (Martin, 65), Warren. Unused subs: Haysom, Allen.
- Second-half goals from Chris Toy and Diane Bassiriki earned Poppies a 2-0 win over Lymington at Victoria Park.
