MARK Wolstenholme ripped his way through the Wales top order to put Dorset in a strong position after day one in Abergavenny yesterday.

The right-arm seamer removed the first five batsmen in the Welsh order, and claimed overall figures of 5-62 from his 16 first-innings overs.

Backing up their strike bowler, James Hayman (2-25) and Sam Thomson (2-13) were economical, and vice-skipper Jake Lintott grabbed the other scalp as Wales closed on 124 off 55.4 overs.

In reply, Masoor Khan continued his good form at the top of the order with 49 but Dorset stuttered to 88 for four with opener Michael Porter and debutant Ben Bridgen both dismissed without score.

The visitors rebuilt late on through skipper Chris Park (20) and Luke Webb (25) and both will resume today with Dorset 20 runs ahead on 144 for five.
