AFC Bournemouth: Boss Eddie Howe to take cautious approach with his players during first week of pre-season

Bournemouth Echo: BACK IN TRAINING: AFC Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe (centre) BACK IN TRAINING: AFC Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe (centre)

EDDIE Howe admitted that avoiding injuries was his number one priority after Cherries returned to pre-season training on Saturday.

The Dean Court boss revealed a gentle introduction was his favoured approach as he was keen to circumvent any early setbacks.

Cherries will fly out to their training base in Austria a week today and the manager is promising his players will not be pushed too hard prior to that.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “Times have changed in pre-season. In days gone by the players got a tough baptism when they came back to training, but now guarding against injuries is our biggest priority. We want to make sure the players get through pre-season fit and healthy.

“We've never done anything like running through golf courses or forests with the players, every-thing we do will be on the pitch and with the ball, which I think the players enjoy and get the most out of.

"Very early on we'll be testing and seeing where the lads are fitness-wise and then we'll be slowly but surely building up their fitness levels.

“Pre-season will be a nice, slow introduction to fitness work and ball work and hopefully the players will enjoy the work that they do.”

Howe was keen to keep his training methods under wraps but revealed the challenge of returning to the training field was one he had been relishing.

“I think we approach training slightly differently and we have a few things up our sleeve in terms of what we will be doing but I will keep those to myself,” he said.

“We will try and test the players in different ways, mentally as well as physically.

“We're looking forward to getting back to work. This is one of my favourite times of the season as you get the chance to really work the players tactically and lay all the foundations you need to have a successful season.”

Cherries' first pre-season friendly is against FC Copenhagen on Friday, July 11.

I remember Jalal wearing Seabrights jersey v Brentford a few seasons ago, so you can't go by what's written on a label.

I think the one on the left is TK's dad, perhaps the Ohec can confirm?

Morning troops, great opening shot Ted regarding the shed load of cash that is heading our way," proper laugh out loud."

On the story itself it shows what a very modern and clever guy that Eddy is regarding his joined up thinking and forward thinking methods of coaching.

That's why he's rated so highly by most in the game, and reviled by the trolls up the road.
Still think they should deliver it on the pitch when we play their u18's (if they even have any of those left after the everything must go sale) in a few weeks.

Good afternoon gents!
I wonder if Eddie’s training secret is pretending he has something mystical up his sleeve?? Whatever it is it galvanised the boys last season and I’m sure will do again for this one. I like his careful, considered approach which should see us progress as well as be a viable business. Hope we have some solid news about how many season tickets have gone tomorrow. With a good showing on these and another good season we could be ready to expand the ground a bit.

As for the SCG clowns across the forest, how about this for an awesome Monday fact regarding their wheelbarrow full of pound coins:
1*£1 coin = 9.5 grams therefore 6.25 million of the little beauties = 59,375kgs!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s more than the weight of the pies that Ricky Lambert comfort-ate while he resided in Pants-shire, now that’s some barrow-load!

Interesting statistics TedMac.
That roughly aquates to 349,265 pies consumed, at an average of approx 5 per day for his 4 years at Stains. That's actually not to bad, it would take me considersbly more comfort eating than that to reside in that dump for 4 years.
Anyway Rickie has now seen the error of his ways and moved on to his preferred staple diet of Scouse (hughhhhhh).
