AFC Bournemouth: Former Cherries hitman Lewis Grabban reveals exit reasons

Bournemouth Echo: NEW START: Lewis Grabban NEW START: Lewis Grabban

LEWIS Grabban has revealed that Neil Adams persuaded him to move to Norwich City by laying out an attacking vision similar to that of Eddie Howe.

Adams, only appointed full-time at the Carrow Road last month following a short stint as caretaker, made Grabban his first signing of summer last week.

The 26-year-old striker, who was Cherries’ top scorer in 2013-14, said Adams’s views on playing style would provide him with the continuity he craved.

Grabban told the Daily Echo: “When I listened to the manager’s philosophy on attacking football, it was a similar to the philosophy at Bournemouth.

“It’s important when a settled player moves on that they don’t go into a team that uses a completely different style, because it just might not work.

“I think Eddie Howe is getting it right and the manager at Norwich has similar philosophies - he wants to play attacking, passing football and dominate possession.

“I liked that aspect of what he wanted to do and the club’s ambitions matched my ambitions to get to the Premier League.

“Bournemouth have got a good chance of getting there, but I do feel that Norwich have a lot of Premier League experience and also experience of getting to the Premier League, so maybe they might edge it on that.

“The opportunity to go to a club of that size was one I didn’t want to turn down.”

Grabban rejected a £1.1million move to Brighton in January before signing a fresh three-and-a-half-year deal at Dean Court, that contract containing a £3million release clause.

The former Rotherham man subsequently went on to break Luther Blissett’s second-flight scoring record for Cherries as he netted 22 goals in the Championship.

His final appearance in the 4-1 home win over Nottingham Forest on April 26 brought the curtain down on a fruitful two-season spell on the south coast, during which he bagged 13 goals in the promotion-earning campaign of 2012-13.

Grabban added: “I enjoyed every moment of my time at Bournemouth. It was a good time in their history and I was glad to be a part of their accomplishments.

“There were a lot of highlights. Winning promotion was special as was setting a club record for the highest second-tier finish.

“Early on last season we got beaten quite heavily by a few teams but by the time we played them for the second time, we were much better.

“The improvement the squad made was a highlight and the general journey over the last two years was great to be a part of.”

so the money had nothing to do with it Grabban, you spoke about keeping our squad together, 2 weeks later you move, you've gone down in my estimation, good luck with your new untried manager.

It's a short career and one that could be ended in any game by a bad tackle, so I don't blame any player who seeks to better his contract. But Norwich have a £23,000,000 parachute payment and £61,000,000 of TV money from last Season to spend and it beggers belief not to admit it's all about MONEY!! Having said that, he worked hard whilst here and always gave of his best and you can ask no more than that of him.

Interesting article, but all a bit academicthis week, shame it wasn’t out a week ago when this was a bit more topical, as Grabbs is AFCB history now.

Got to agree with the all previous sentiments, Lewis if it was about the money just say so, there’s no shame in it!
I appreciate on paper Norwich have better odds of promotion than us, but life doesn’t always run logically.
A bit of a cold fish and a real pity he didn’t take this last chance to mention the support he had from the stands, but hey we’re not all emotional creatures.
…….and YES , what an incentive for us to tear up Norwich next season!!!

Maybe we could have an OHEC vote as to who's outbursts have been the most embarrassing, Delia's or dear old Eddie Mitchells?
The lady would get my vote.

This story demonstrates clearly what a load of old bo@@ocks this is all about. I am grateful to Grabbs for what he did for AFC and have no problem if he wants to go off and earn an even larger cash wad each week. But please, don't make pathetic statements like this or I might vomit all over my collection of program's. It is accepted that Norwich are a bigger club with probably a bigger fan base than ours but they came down from the premier league and anyway have also struggled for for a long time. We on the other hand are fresh and hungry with a brilliant management team and an enthusiastic but realistic owner. I wish him all the best but truly hope that Lewis comes to regret his move away from the club that neutered and fed his undoubted talents. Time to move on and I cannot wait to see who will be playing up front of us next season

He's not lying. I'm sure everything he said in the article was the truth, however, money will play a factor; it always does. This is a guy who is probably taking home about 5k a week after tax and is moving to a club which could very well be doubling his salary (as well as signing on fee and bonuses). That is a life changing amount of money - only an idiot would turn that down at this level of football.

These people saying to Grabban why can't be just be honest... what planet are you on?

When was the last time you EVER heard a player saying he's moving club because of money.

99% of transfers to clubs in loftier positions are all about money, but if I was in Grabban's position I certainly wouldn't be saying "it's because they'll be paying me more". The fans of the club you left will have a rather bitter taste in their mouth, and the fans of the team you've joined will be wondering just for how long you'll be sticking around.

Grabbs has been tactical in this interview, so much so, it practically renders the whole story pointless. Standard footballer blurb. That said, Grabbs did amazing for us, plus we have made a tidy profit, so I personally I have no gripes with the lad.

Why does it stink? Grabban was probably promised a move at the end of the season if a bigger club comes in for him again. So, he stayed, worked hard, scored goals and signed a new contract.

If he hadn't of done this, we would never have sold him for 3 million! The new contract was in both of our interests, Grabban earns a few more pounds whilst we triple our sale price for him.

Just a pack of lies Grabban, and I'm not sorry you're gone!!! Had you gone to Brighton, ok, fair enough, but to then sign an improved contract, and STILL go only a few months later, it just stinks. Thank goodness the club at least makes some decent money out of it, as you certainly will, because it has little to do with ambition, just money, so it's a shame you couldn't come clean and just say your only interest are ££££££££££

££ signs. I don't begrudge players going for money, but at least be honest about it, the way Grabbing Grabban has gone about this leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. Like I've said, I'm not sorry to see him go, we can do far better than him, and that's something I've always felt!!! UTCIAD

Exactly, well done Grabbs, thanks for the memory, anybody remember Ted M moving on. Its in the past, swallow your pride and lets move on.

I'm afraid a few of you on here today are sounding a bit bitter and silly, he's not your ex girlfriend for god's sake, he's a player we had and now he's moved on. He's gone for better money and so what? Be honest about why he's moved? I've yet to hear the player that says he's only going for the money. As i said on another thread last week, he thinks he'll get to the Prem quicker with Norwich, his wages have gone up and it's a short career so that's that. He hasn't actually done anything wrong, he's been asked questions in interviews and he gives answers so when he says we need to keep hold of our players then leaves a couple of weeks later then that's the way it is, he's got to do what's right for him and his family. He was an employee of ours not a fan since childhood.
And a snidey money grabber? I think your getting him confused with Wiggins who slapped in a transfer request when we were going along nicely and got his agent to slag the club off and engineer a move. now he really was a piece of work and i've got no time for him. But when Grabbs comes back, when his name's read out i'll give him a clap. so he didn't mention us fans? Oh well, no skin of my nose, he was never that sort of bloke. He's not Supa Fletch!
Now dry your eyes and stop crying and grumbling. Grabbs has gone, good luck to him, and the AFCB machine rolls on. Who knows, he might be making a big mistake and we can wave as we go past him and his new team!

Agreed, if the playing style is very similar, it can only be money that made you move.......don't have a problem with that, but it makes this story a complete load of tosh and a total waste of time.

Well if you cant be honest don't say anything...don't come out with all this Bull S&*t !!!!
