AFC Bournemouth: Cherries among four Championship clubs in for Coventry City striker Callum Wilson

Bournemouth Echo: SOUGHT AFTER: Coventry City's Callum Wilson (left) SOUGHT AFTER: Coventry City's Callum Wilson (left)

COVENTRY City today confirmed that Cherries were one of the four Championship clubs that had an approach for in-demand striker Callum Wilson rejected.

The Dean Court side, who lost the services of top scorer Lewis Grabban to Norwich City last week, reportedly had a seven-figure offer turned down by the Sky Blues.

In line with boss Eddie Howe’s policy not to comment on transfer speculation, Cherries remained tight-lipped on the prospect of a move for Wilson despite being named as an interested party by Coventry’s development director Steve Baggott.

City stated that they had rejected two written bids, one verbal offer and a further declaration of interest from four separate clubs, with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest understood to be on the trail of the 22-year-old.

Wolves have been tracking the striker for some time, while speculation was rife that Forest were set to close the deal yesterday, only for it to emerge that the City Ground outfit had not made a formal approach.

Wilson, thought to be valued between £2million and £3million, bagged 22 goals in 41 appearances last term, a record which made him the third-highest scorer in League One.

Coventry have publicly reiterated their desire to hold onto the prized asset but an increased offer for a player who has only completed one full season of first-team football could test their resolve.

The home-grown talent, who has built a strong rapport with City manager Steven Pressley, debuted in the League Cup in August 2009 and made his first league appearance as a substitute against QPR in December 2010.

He made 17 appearances during a loan stint with Kettering Town in the Conference before being restricted to just three outings at Tamworth, also in non-league’s top flight.

Wilson scored one goal in 12 appearances for City in 2012-13 prior to making his breakthrough under Pressley last term.

I know the Echo are very much behind with their stories, and perhaps should go out and find the stories more often, but in fairness it must be very difficult in obtaining news from the club whose own website seem to be suffering with the same problem at least they have the 50 top moments of last season to fall back on, come on lads find the news a season ticket update would be a start, and how about an interview with Mr Mostyn with regard to the Football League meeting he has just attended did the clubs get the consessions they were hoping to get on Fair play, there must be a number of thing going on that could be told to the fans and raise interest, last season has now gone lets look forward not back

I can see your point devon_fan and a season ticket update is a good choice as an easy story to inform us as well as your other suggestions.

Morning Coops, not sure that the Echo went beyond their PCs to find this story. However Eddie's got my money for the season, so let's get it spent, we should be able to get someone decent in for £480 + £40 for a shirt ;-}

Afcbpete who is generating the TK Twitter rumour?

Perhaps the Echo could run a "top 50 Wes Thomas howlers" series to fill the news gaps, LOL!

Have to agree with Devon Fan. An update of FFP would be much more interesting. After all, if they didn't get the concessions we might not have access to the money to buy players like this anyway. As well as that, who's going to want to come to a club with a threat of points deduction and salary freezes hanging over them.

FFP is threatening to cause divisions within divisions - clubs with parachute payments and clubs without !

Sounds a good player at the right price rumors are Coventry want around 3M sounds to much as we just sold a 22 championship goal scorer for that to pay the same for a 22 league 1 goal scorer. Have to agree with afcbtintin FFP is threatening to cause divisions within divisions with teams filtering to league 1 still getting parachute payments.

Forest have signed Matt Fryatt from Hull , so they might be out of the loop . Looking forward to seeing who is going to team up with Yann , with TK as back up and maybe O ' Hanlon moving up . As for the remaining strikers , expect to see them playing League One football soon .

Exactly (re Grabbs). So much for those who reckoned £3m fro grabs was a great deal (someone at the Echo in particular I recall...!)

My mate is a Cov fan who reckons this boy is mustard. Might be worth shelling out if we can afford to. Austin proved he could score at any level and Eddie put his faith in him.

Ha ha, just seen that!
Incredible, just stays long enough to make himself unpopular, then moves on. Either that or the rest of the squad find out one of his middle names is 'Nevada' and he can't handle the p1ss taking anymore!
Should keep the Brummies goals-for column nice and low next season.

Incredable really...Romany gypsys move around less in a year than Thomas. Actually that gives me an idea, i think Swindon are in the market for a striker. Oh no, they wanted him before but couldn't afford him (snigger).

I'd quite happily start a GoFundMe campaign for poor old Swindle (snigger) to get Wes on board.
