LYMINGTON’S late rally proved in vain as St Cross Symondians’ dogged tail-end eventually secured a two-wicket success at the Green Jackets Ground.

Ryan Scott (22) set about steadying the ship after Lymo had endured a treacherous start but his team-mates provided little support as Harry Foyle (3-25) and Jordan Finney (3-27) restricted the visitors to 94 for seven.

Captain Simon Beetham (35) teamed up with Ed Ellis (18) to put on 39 in a brief eighth-wicket flourish but Lymington still had to settle for 146 for nine.

Ed Green’s 44 off 46 balls gave St Cross a strong platform on 92 for three but Matt Metcalfe (3-35) and Darren Mortimer (2-24) made significant progress through the middle order and reduced the hosts to 117 for seven.

The game was back in the balance but James Brooke (26*) refused to be moved and St Cross got over the line with four overs to spare.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Bashley’s trip to Burridge was cancelled.

In Division One, pacesetters New Milton maintained their 100 per cent winning start with a 55- run success over bottom club Fawley.

James Park (74) was the pick of Milton’s batsmen as the hosts ended their 40 overs on 154 for eight.

Tom Gates (49) led the charge for Fawley but his colleagues were picked off with relative ease by George Watts (3- 12) and Nick Elliott (3-15) and were dismissed for 99.
