NEW recruit Sam Thomson starred with bat and ball to help Bashley record a 52-run victory over Premier Division rivals Alton at Jubilee Playing Fields.

Former Parley man Thomson (40) shared a fifth-wicket stand of 87 with Nick Baker (54) as Bashley posted a challenging 214 for nine.

Their efforts added to those of Australian overseas player Jaron Morgan (54) who hit seven fours and two sixes in a whirlwind 34-ball stay.

Thomson (3-32) then combined with Jake Lilley (2-34) and Rosco Grierson (2-30) to help restrict the hosts to 162 for nine from their 50 overs.

Meanwhile, a stand of 116 between James Park and Mark House helped ease New Milton to a facile eight-wicket win over Hursley Park in Division One.

Chasing Hursley’s 129, Milton shook off the loss of Toby Edwards in the first over with Park (66*) and House (48) taking them to the brink of victory.

Earlier, Lynton Staniford (3-22), Dan Loader (2-36), George Watts (2-22) and Nick Elliott (2-14) had all chipped in to ensure Hursley would struggle.

Milton skipper Ryan Beck said: “It was a very good team effort. We bowled and fielded superbly and went about the chase very maturely. James Park and Mark House were superb and Lynton Staniford, our overseas man from Bournemouth, bowled excellently.”
