AFC Bournemouth: Richard Hughes offered post on Eddie Howe's backroom staff

Bournemouth Echo: MANAGEMENT TEAM: Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall MANAGEMENT TEAM: Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall

RETIRING Cherries star Richard Hughes has been offered a position on Eddie Howe’s backroom staff.

Hughes, who announced earlier this week he would be hanging up his boots, had been discussing a suitable role with Howe for the past couple of months.

Howe was given the green light to keep him on at a board meeting on Wednesday and the Scotsman yesterday received an official offer and job description.

Hughes, who also works as a pundit for BT Sport, would be employed by the club on a full-time basis with part of his role likely to include scouting and team analysis.

Despite being restricted to seven appearances this season, the 34-year-old’s experience and knowledge were invaluable to Howe as Cherries quickly adjusted to life in the Championship.

Meanwhile, striker Jayden Stockley is pondering the club’s offer of a new one-year deal after meeting Howe for his end-of-season debrief earlier this week. Talks are ongoing with out-of-contract pair Darryl Flahavan and Benji Buchel.

Development squad quartet Josh Wakefield, Josh Carmichael, Aristide Bassele and Harrison Gilkes are all understood to have agreed in principle new deals.

If Hughsie's knowledge & experience has helped this season it's good to retain his services.

The transfer rumours have started already 'Boro bid for Grabbs (why would we sell to a Ch'ship rival??) and we're bidding for McCormack (it would be nice to recue him from L**ds), make of it all what you will.

I am all for making use of any available talent, but if we add too many more to the backroom staff they will outnumber the players, or is this the clubs way of increasing the crowd

Do you know what, that is a fair point, has anyone seen the size of our bench ?

It would appear we have a back room team of nearly 100, seriously I was just waiting for someone else to notice.

Very soon there will be no space for the back room staff and squad players we will have to build a bigger stand , L O L.

Seriously, how many people do you need Eddy but who are we to question ?

Hi Coops,
I can definitely understand your concerns but am taking the point of view that we do enter into offering these posts lightly and are conscious of what we are spending. I don’t know how our infrastructure with staff compares with a small Premier League club or a larger Championship club, it would be interesting to know....anybody?
So onto building the Backroom Staff Stand then ROFL!

A bit of an exaggeration, Eddie's full time "backroom" staff is twelve including Eddie and Jason , two coaches Purches and Moss, Operations and Recruitment John Yems & Dave Webb, Sports Science Dan Hodges, Sports Therapist - Dave Gardner, Physio John Hard, Analylist Garvan Stewart and of course Joe Roach and Carl Fletcher who run the Youth Academy. Not an army of hangers on!!

We've just had our best ever season and so if it not broken don't try and fix it! As long as it's within our budget I'd let EH do as he pleases

no wants to break it Bishop, but I would not want to see it collapse because it is unable to carry the load

I can't see the problem if it within budget and it works although out back room staff nearly number the amount of players we had in the squad only 5 or 6 years ago!!

We have had a great season...

Now we are all getting over that marvellous time it is clear that if Man City are not punished for their overspend, we can all stop looking over our shoulders. If however they are punished for their very extravagant spending then it will be very awkward for us...
..
We need to just sit back, relax and enjoy the moment...as us fans can do nothing about it. It's tough but if we get bigger and rise to the Premiership we will be within the capped spend and get a parachute payment worth more by being relegated, than finishing tenth in the Prem!
..
...So watch this space our team could be going for sh*t or bust next season!
..
We need to get ready for the fact that money and business is always about us. Up the Cherries! Carpe Diem.
