SWIM Bournemouth youngster Ben Samuel became a national champion for the third time in four years at the National Schools Biathlon Championships in London.

Samuel, representing Corfe Mullen’s Castle Course School, made good use of his swimming training, recording the fastest time of the day in the 100m freestyle – a long-course 59.27sec, the only sub 60-second swim of the day.

He then completed the third fastest time in the under 13yrs 1600m run (5min 14sec), placing him third in that but first overall with 121 points to spare.

The contest was held at the London Aquatics Centre and coincided with the re-opening of the Olympic Park.

Castle Court’s under 12 boys’ team of Joshua Jack, Baden Davies and Max Duffield came third in their team event. Ella-Rose Bowman was ninth in the u/11 swim and 29th overall.
