YANN Kermorgant revealed his prolific pairing with Lewis Grabban had needed little nurturing and insisted there was plenty more to come from the pair.

The deadly double act have bagged 11 goals in the six Championship fixtures they have started together, their impressive haul helping propel resurgent Cherries to within two points of the play-off places ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Yeovil Town (3.07pm).

Since boss Eddie Howe handed ‘the beast of Brittany’ his first start against Doncaster Rovers, Cherries have won eight out of 10 league fixtures, the sequence coinciding with a return to form for leading marksman Grabban.

Having netted five times in as many matches, the former Rotherham United frontman has rediscovered his killer instinct to surpass Luther Blissett’s second-tier club record with 20 league goals so far.

And having swiftly struck gold with his new partner in crime, Cherries’ £400,000 deadline day signing from Charlton Athletic explained that Howe’s foresight to combine the duo had proved fruitful.

Discussing his rip-roaring start alongside Grabban, Kermorgant told the Daily Echo: “The manager brought me into the team because he knew we would make a good partnership – he was not wrong.

“Grabbs is a great player, he is intelligent and makes good runs and I think we complement each other really well. We have different strengths and together, we can make a big impact.

“He runs the channels which is not my best strength, I prefer to play just behind the striker so when he makes a run I know where I have to be to get the ball to feet.

“I know when he’s on the shoulder ready to get behind the centre-backs and he knows I am looking for him. His timing is great, we have a good understanding and it’s quite natural.

“It’s simple and it just works, we know what we can do and what we need to do for each other. We do different things but can also swap roles so I believe |we can both score a lot more goals.”

Meanwhile, Kermorgant hailed Cherries’ style of play as a fundamental factor in his own bright start.

“It has been a great month or so for the team and for me too as I have scored quite a few,” he added.

“We all know as a striker, people look at your goals and when you move to a new club your first is the most important. It takes off the pressure.

"I was never afraid about that, though. With the way we play we were always going to create chances and I was always sure I could score goals here.”
