CHAIRMAN Jeff Mostyn believes Cherries’ exploits in the Championship this season have merited more television exposure and insists broadcasters have “missed a treat”.

Cherries have been involved in one live game on Sky Sports, while their solitary appearance as the feature match on the BBC’s Football League Show came more than seven months ago in August.

“It has been a huge bugbear of mine,” Mostyn told the Daily Echo. “We are the team of the moment and some of the football we have been playing has been sublime.

“We have been getting plaudits from other clubs’ directors and supporters, while coverage of our games has been excellent in both the national and local press.”

Cherries also appeared on the small screen when their FA Cup fourth round clash against Liverpool in January was broadcast live on ITV.

However, plans to screen as the feature match on the Football League Show their Championship clash against Burnley in February were shelved at the 11th hour due to concerns over the clash being postponed.

The Football League are due to send a production company to film Cherries’ showdown with QPR on Saturday with the clash syndicated and sold for live broadcast in other countries.

Mostyn added: “We are the talk of the league at the moment and if anybody can show me a team playing more attractive and better quality football, I would like to know who they are.

“Not too many people would have predicted we would have been 10th with seven games remaining. The players and the management team have done an incredible job. They are playing with confidence and have a winning mentality. I cannot begin to say how proud I am to be chairman of this club.

“Certainly since I arrived in 2006, there has not been a better time to be associated with this club. The team deserves to have the place packed to the rafters for the next two home games, and for the rest of the season.

“Everybody has to dream and the fantasy can be achieved. Every year a team comes through the pack to grasp a place in the play-offs so why can’t it be us this season.

“It is indicative of how far we have come that people are saying we only have to beat QPR, Reading, Forest and Ipswich to reach the play-offs. If we were to do that, we would deserve to reach them.”

Asked whether he felt it would be too early for the club to reach the Premier League, Mostyn replied: “It is a hypothetical question but there would never be a bad time to be in the Premier League.

“If the situation arose where it became a reality, we would ensure we were ready. We have the momentum so why not try to grasp it when we can and move on to next season when we get there.

“We are working hard off the pitch and have already got plans in place to take the club forward beyond this season, whether we are promoted or not. The ambition of this club at some stage is to get into the Premier League – the only thing I can’t tell supporters is the actual date!”
