BOURNEMOUTH Collegiate School scooped two of the county badminton titles up for grabs at the Dorset finals at Harewood College.

The key stage three boys and key stage four girls teams both struck gold in the Center Parcs National Schools tournament.

Teams from Bournemouth School for Girls and Poole Grammar also qualified for the regional finals at Exeter University on Thursday, March 13.

Bournemouth School for Girls won the key stage three girls’ event, while Poole Grammar took top prize in the key stage four boys’ category.

More than 100 competi-tors from across Dorset took part in the event run by Active Dorset and Dorset School Games organisers.

The local partnership received support from Badminton England and the national Sainsbury’s School Games programme.

The teams of four played both singles and doubles matches under the watchful eye of umpires from The Bishop of Winchester School.

“It was a good experience for the young leaders to officiate high performance competitions,” said Bishop of Winchester PE teacher Callum Burt.

“It is a good way of motivating them to play more and learn more about different sports.”

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Helen Troke, who is also a coach at BCS, presented the medals to the winning schools.
