Poole Stadium: Early days in the search for a delicate balance

Bournemouth Echo: ICONIC: Poole Stadium ICONIC: Poole Stadium

HOPEFULLY, this won’t develop into a battle of two sports – and two giants of Dorset business.

Eddie Mitchell has a habit of getting the job done, despite any obstacles thrown in his way.

Matt Ford is a promoter, a successful one, and he wants things to stay that way.

On the other point of the triangle is Stadia UK, the operators of Poole Stadium. The company’s task is to come up with a viable option for a new facility on the site of the stadium – and one that will keep everybody happy. Not easy at all.

Before fans of the speedway club get in a lather about the prospect of Pirates being elbowed out of the way by the town’s football club, though, it should be remembered that these talks are very much in their infancy.

Mitchell may have a reputation for getting things done quickly, but there is still a long way to go and the former Cherries chairman has intimated that speedway remains part of his vision for the stadium.

For sure, it is vital that the speedway (and greyhounds to an extent) does not suffer should Poole Town return to the venue.

Ford has built up a successful brand – Pirates are not known as the Manchester United of speedway for nothing.

The Pirates boss is right to see the potential of a new stadium in a positive way. He has gone some way to convincing Pirates fans by his words on these pages.

But fans’ fears will remain and words will only go so far to alleviate them.

Poole Town were at the Stadium for many years and did co-exist with Speedway too. To me, not a bad solution to Poole's ground problem, I can remember as a boy going to the Tatnum Stadium, on a cold Winter night to see the late , great Wilf Mannion playing for them . I wish them luck.

The greyhounds already suffer at this site, in the name of a so called 'sport'. Let the football club and the speedway make use of it and get rid of the greyhound racing.

Very intelligent statement!! please let the 15 professional trainers at Poole who try and make a living know they haven't a job any more.. and what do you think will happen to the 300 dogs that race at the stadium ? ?

Stadia UK have recently closed 4 greyhound track.
So closing Poole would just be one more .
Eddi and Reeves, have a plan to put PTFC back where it should be at the Stadium .
As POOLe progress in the football world ,THe 3/400 supporters that support the club will turn into thousands,
SE Dorset has a population as big as BRISTOL,

13 races with 6 dogs in each =78 add 16-20 in reserve and times that by at least 3 meeting a week and you will come to somewhere near 300. No dog will race twice in the same week, it's usually 3-4 times a month so a ball park figure of 300 is close to the mark. Wrong again Mr Woodley.

The same Mr Mitchell with the decking in the park ruled to be removed by planning, which he says he will not do, and the Council is now in discussions with him re the stadium.
Surely he should comply with planning in existing projects before being allowed near anything else?

Surely this shows the low level of Mitchell's intelligence , he want the planners to back a massive project but insists on being an arse over a small piece of decking, if only I was a planner, come on Mr Dearing show him who is really boss here
