AFC Bournemouth: Terriers revenge on Pugh's mind

Bournemouth Echo: PRE-MATCH THOUGHTS: Marc Pugh PRE-MATCH THOUGHTS: Marc Pugh

MARC Pugh will be hoping to help Cherries complete a revenge mission when they host Championship rivals Huddersfield at Dean Court tonight (7.45pm).

Pugh, who is set to make his 150th league appearance for the club, netted his first goal in the second flight during a 5-1 defeat at the John Smith’s Stadium in August.

The winger could also be the only survivor in the Cherries team who featured when they lost out in the League One play-off semi-final in May 2011.

Pugh notched one of his first goals for Cherries in a 2-2 draw against the Terriers in September 2010 and has also scored in the past two meetings between the clubs.

The 26-year-old told the Daily Echo: “It is always good to have an FA Cup run but the league is really important to us and Huddersfield is another massive game. We owe them one for what happened earlier in the season.

“We can take confidence from our last league game against Watford because they also hammered us at the start of the season but we showed what a good team we are by bouncing back and should have beaten them.

“We have good rivalry with Huddersfield after the play-offs as well and it is an important game for both clubs. If we could win, it would push us into mid-table and not too far from the play-off positions.

“We want to aim as high as possible and would like to be looking at the chasing pack after the game.

“We have two big games this week with Leicester coming here on Saturday. Our performances at home have been excellent and we just need to start converting our chances. If we can keep clean sheets, we know we are capable of scoring goals.

“It is a game of small margins and an extra couple of per cent can be the difference. If we get the chances, we have to take them. We haven’t scored the first goal often enough this season and need to start doing that.

“If we can take the lead in games, we have the ability to really push on and press home our advantage.”

To repeat a previous post of mine from earlier this morning:
We need three points v Huddersfield tonight as Leicester will be a tough one on Saturday. If we can come out of the these two games with 4 pts we will have done VERY well.

Well done Pughie on 150 appearances and I well remember Steve Lovell;s fantastic play-off goal at the Galfpharm, hope it all goes well tonight.
