AFC Bournemouth: Howe set to ring changes for FA Cup clash

Bournemouth Echo: CHERRIES BOSS: Eddie Howe CHERRIES BOSS: Eddie Howe

CHERRIES manager Eddie Howe admits the FA Cup is “not our main priority” but says he will be taking the famous competition “very seriously”.

Howe will be hoping Cherries can overcome League Two high-fliers Burton Albion when they face-off in the third round at Dean Court on Saturday (3pm).

The draw has handed Cherries an opportunity to progress to the fourth round for the first time since 2005 when Howe was an unused substitute during a 2-0 defeat at Burnley.

But Howe, who watched his boyhood heroes Everton reach three successive finals between 1984 and 1986, maintains Cherries’ Championship fortunes are his first concern this season.

He told the Daily Echo: “The FA Cup is a great competition and, when I was growing up in the 1980s, it was all that was talked about. I don’t think you lose that thought process and we will be taking it very seriously.

“I am not going to lie, it is not our main priority this season. But to go on a cup run would give everyone confidence and you never want to lose a game so we would like to see how far we can go.”

Howe is set to make changes to his starting line-up with the tie coming on the back of a punishing schedule of four Championship matches in 12 days over the festive period.

And unless the situation regarding Lee Camp is resolved ahead of kick-off – with the goalkeeper’s loan from West Brom having expired on New Year’s Day – Ryan Allsop is likely to earn a recall.

Free agent Camp, whose contract with the Baggies also came to an end yesterday, has been in talks with Cherries over a permanent deal and is unlikely to want to be cup tied until his future has been decided.

Discussing his team selection, Howe added: “We will see who is fit and available. From my perspective, it is a game we want to win but I am going to have to rotate the squad. We have players who have been running on empty for the past couple of games so will utilise the squad and give some other players an opportunity to impress.”

Excellent opportunity to give some players who have been warming the bench a full game. I'd like to see Rantie and Pitman up front, Pugh on the left and Coulibaly on the right, McQuoid and MacDonald in the middle and Addison centreback. I think Arter should be shielded from another yellow. I'd like to see both fullbacks rested but I can't see who we could really trust to replace them. I can see some may think this is too many changes, although we nominally have a large squad there are a fair few who's fitness is key to maintaining our league position.

I think we could use Harte as a fullback. He's played there once or twice.

Personally, I would like to see Rantie and Thomas play up front together in a 4-4-2 formation i.e. Thomas to act as holding the ball up and Rantie to run the channels.
.
I am concerned about the Lee Camp situation. He was pivotal in our current run of form. Without him we would undoubtedly have not accumalated the number of points that we have done recently. Allsop is not ready, Jalal is too rusty at the moment and I believe that Flahaven is injured. So the next league game should be interesting as to who appears in goal for us.
.
But like any other player, Camp is weighing up his options i.e. who is going to offer me the best deal. So I suppose we cannot bame him for that.
.

Until yesterday Camp has not had a lot to do in the games he has played.Having said that he was exceptional against Brighton which has given him even more bargaining power !!!

As I have said a couple of times recently, this is the ideal chance to play a proven forward in a forward position, All though Addison did not score hat full s of goals he could proof to be a handful just like Fletch was, this would give the defenders something to think about this allowing Grabs more time and space, or Rantie when he's back.i wouldn't ever give Thomas another chance after he showed that he is not committed to AFCB, last season.

EH has moved the team on. Anyone who plays up front should be able to hold the ball up AND score goals. Addison doesn't fit the requirement. Thomas does, it's the managers job to motivate him. Oops I can feel a few negatives coming. Yes, I remember when he first came to Bmth and looked really good. We need that Thomas back.

I think Arter should be shielded from another yellow. I'd like to see both fullbacks rested but I can't see who we could really trust to replace them. I can see some may think this is too many changes, although we nominally have a large squad there are a fair few who's fitness is key to maintaining our league position.
As I have said a couple of times recently, this is the ideal chance to play a proven forward in a forward position, All though Addison did not score hat full s of goals he could proof to be a handful just like Fletch was, this would give the defenders something to think about this allowing Grabs more time and space, or Rantie when he's back.i wouldn't ever give Thomas another chance after he showed that he is not committed to AFCB, last season.
addison up front are you having a laugh?
Well, Paul Jewell made good use of him at Derby why can't we ?
Yeah Jewell lasted all of 13 months at Derby !!!
Yeah Addison lasted 7 years at Derby

To be fair even though I am proud of our teams achievements I think a little experiment up front against a league two side wouldn't do any harm, this game is about opinions , I have no shame in airing mine , you might not agree but haven't shared any of yours, so I shall bid you good night

I am not in favour of this rotation policy we are not a Premier league club and most of our backup squad cannot be match fit having had little chance to show what they can do, Burton Albion have a creditable away record and should not be underestimated and with prize money of 67,500 at stake with the possibility of a draw against a top side home or away this should be a must win game, Eddie should remember the fans do not pay good money to watch a Bournemouth 2nd team who have not played together and some of them hardly played at all struggle for 90 minutes against a team whom we would be expected to beat 9 times out of 10, we have little choice but to accept the team you field, but be warned Eddie get it wrong and you will cost the club a lot of money and there can be no excuses

Addison wanted to play midfield, but was played at CB, occasionally when chasing games he'd be lumped up front just like we used to drag Fletch to the back when trying to close games out a few years ago
Addison is NOT a forward, even when he had some pace before the injury
I live up here now and drink with several Pride Park ST holders, I do know of what I speak

I would however like to see some of Matthews (if fit yet), Cornick, McDermott, Addison (at the back) attempting to stake a place or showing us what they can do, but yes Burton shouldn't be underestimated

Hey racist, personally, it's got nothing to do with you as you will not be paying a penny to watch this game. As for the real supporters who will pay their £10, they would like to see a positive result and not a run out for some of the fringe players. Fortunately some of the fringe players have now been named as possible transfer targets and will not be risked in this game. Save your concern about Camp and his wage demands, as once again it’s got nothing to do with you.

This season is all about consolidation , however that doesn ' t mean we cannot have a cup run . We need to take our opponents seriously or we will be " Gone for a BURTON ! " . This would be bad for the morale of the players and supporters . Please play a strong side Eddie !
