AFC Bournemouth: Blues boss Clark delighted to nullify attacking players

Bournemouth Echo: . .

BIRMINGHAM manager Lee Clark admitted he had been delighted to see his team snuff out the threat of Cherries' “terrific attacking players”.

Clark had goalkeeper Darren Randolph to thank as the Blues capitalised on Cherries' profligacy to complete a hat-trick of away wins.

Victory, which came courtesy of well-taken first-half goals from Andy Shinnie and Nikola Zigic, hoisted the visitors five places in the Championship, with Clark's men the biggest movers of the day.

Clark said: “I was absolutely delighted because we came up against a terrific team. They pass the ball well and have good movement. We had to be resilient and every player put in a shift when we didn't have the ball.

“We scored two good goals and probably could have kept the ball better at times. But when you keep giving it to the opposition, they will cause you problems. I can't fault the effort and application of the group.

“It was never going to be easy and I like what Eddie does here and like the group of players he has. They have some terrific attacking players but we nullified them. When they did breach us, our goalkeeper pulled off two or three excellent saves.

“They changed their system a couple of times which showed how resolute we were being during the game. When you go away from home, win and keep a clean sheet, you have to be delighted.”

24 Attempts on goal, 14 Corners and 60% Possession - Their Goalkeeper Man of the Match !
I was thoroughly pleased and entertained with the lads performance - Just need a bit more sharpness in the box !

Sensible comments (opposed to the knee jerk reactions on Sat. night) & total agree. Given we know we will not end up in the top 7 or 8, I'd rather see that fight and determination and lose than see some boring 0-0 draw.

Keep playing like that and it will be "some you win, some you lose"

0 goals = 0 points.
We will entertain our way down the league to relegation.!
Before the uproar of indignation starts, I agree with what your implying Steve, but the management need to sort this out very soon.

If you don't shoot you cant score.
In a perverse sort of way I did enjoy the game. I do feel like the team is really coming together now. Remember that the objective at beginning of the season was to stay up, so anything more than that is a bonus.
Birmingham fan said to me that he thought Brhm were poor and we played good football and that we just need to be more clinical and react quicker.

Sorry but Clarke is praising his team for us not beating ours. Actually the reason he came away with a win is down to our players not his. Birmingham a very poor side and if he thinks they are play-off material he must be dreaming!
