AFC Bournemouth: Pugh looking to double figures again
BUOYANT winger Marc Pugh wants to prove he is no flash in the pan at Championship level – by hitting double figures for Cherries this season.
The in-form Lancastrian stunned into silence the home crowd at Leicester on Saturday with a rip-roaring equaliser that chalked up his fourth goal of the campaign in emphatic fashion.
But while Pugh’s wonder strike proved to no avail at the King Power Stadium, the 20-yard dipping thunderbolt only added to the former Shrewsbury and Hereford wide-man’s burgeoning reputation at the start of his first stint in the second tier.
And despite admitting he has had to be more savvy in hunting his opportunities at a higher level, Pugh insists he is no mood to relinquish the plaudits as he seeks more success in the red and black.
Pugh told the Daily Echo: “I am feeling fit, strong and very confident at the moment and it is all coming together nicely.
“I have generally hit double figures since coming to Bournemouth and I don’t want this season to be any different. I want to prove myself in the Championship.
“You have to be quite cute at this level to find the pockets of space because they get shut off so quickly. You have to get into those positions and be clinical. I have been working on that and it is starting to pay dividends.”
Meanwhile Pugh, the star performer at Leicester, admitted his taste for goals had been present throughout the warm-up at City and that he had fancied his chances of finding the net.
Pugh added: “The ball sat up really nicely after Tokelo had played it into my feet and I just hit it. I was chuffed to bits but I’d rather have not scored and seen us get something from the game. It was bitter sweet really.”
