Poole Pirates: Chris Holder hails club-mates after 'awesome' victory
The Poole hero, sidelined since sustaining multiple injuries in a smash at Coventry, provided in-spiration from the pits as Pirates defeated Swindon on Monday.
Holder had one of the best views inside Wimborne Road to see Pirates claim a stunning 55-38 win to overturn Swindon’s 52-42 semi- final first-leg advantage.
And the Australian ace was delighted to see his club-mates seal a memorable success, despite being restricted to a watching brief.
The 2012 world champion said: “I raced for half the year and tried to help them out.
“To miss out on the business end is quite frustrating but as long as the guys they have here are doing well, I am happy.
“All the boys are doing a great job so I am stoked for them.”
Holder, who is on crutches as he continues his recovery from a fractured and dislocated left hip, a shattered heel and a broken shoulder, said he never lost faith in Pirates as they upset the odds to book an Elite League grand final showdown with Birmingham.
He added: “I thought before the meeting that they could do it. The boys are much better at home than away. We had a big chance and they jumped on it.
“I believed in them the whole time. It was awesome. The boys were the underdogs. Coming from a long way off to make the play-offs was really good.
“They will make the most of the win and then regroup and get ready for next Monday (home against Birmingham in the first leg, 7.30pm) because that is going to be a really tough one.”
