Poole Pirates: Daughter's loyalties remain in Dorset says Middlo
PIRATES team manager Neil Middleditch insists there will be no divided loyalties in his household – with his daughter under orders to support Poole tonight.
Gemma Middleditch is dating Swindon’s Poole asset Kyle Howarth, who will lock horns with his parent club in this evening’s play-off semi-final second leg.
But her father, Pirates’ long-serving boss and one of the Dorset outfit’s favourite sons, is adamant every member of his family will be cheering for Poole.
He joked: “Gemma is still backing Poole, bless her. I said I’d make her move out if she didn’t!”
“Kyle is a good lad,” he added. “He has been going out with Gemma for quite a while now.
“It was just number crunching when we had to get rid of him from the team at the start of the season and Matt (Ford, Poole promoter) has made it quite clear that we want him in our plans for the future.”
Pirates chief Ford, who dropped Howarth in one of Poole’s team reshuffles during the early stages of the Elite League campaign, has already stated that he sees the British youngster as part of his team next year.
But Howarth insists he will be fully focused on helping the Robins defend their 52-42 first-leg advantage at Wimborne Road.
He told the Swindon Advertiser: “It is just another meeting for me and I can’t afford to think about anything else. I need to make the gates and try to do exactly what I did last time.”
Howarth, who impressed with an eight paid 10-point haul at Blunsdon last Monday, added: “It was a good team effort and we all did pretty well, but it is not over yet and there is a long way to go because it will be tough at Poole.
“We need to be on our game.”
