A COLOURFUL Mexican-inspired fiesta is set to take over the Lansdowne later this month.

Bournemouth’s Metropole Market will have a Day of the Dead theme when it returns to Holdenhurst Road on Sunday, October 29.

The free event, which runs from 10am to 4pm, will see more than 70 traders plus a host of musicians and acts entertaining visitors including the Beat Banditos Mariachi band, Skull Drummers plus piano and double bass bicycle duo Rimski & Handkerchief.

There will also be fire performances from the Pantheatrix group, while Bournemouth’s Argentine Tango School, Tango Fandango, will be encouraging people to dance.

For little ones, there will be a drumming workshop, face painting plus entertainment from Jamie Jigsaw and Dr Balloonman.

Market goers are encouraged to turn up in colourful and creative costumes with prizes awarded to the best dressed.

There will also be a Dias de Los Muertos parade led by Miss Dorset 2017 Samantha Bumford.

Lyn Turnbull, Co-organiser of the Metropole Market and Co-Owner of Mexigo Burrito Bar, said: “We will now once again be filling Holdenhurst Road with vibrant music, dance and entertainment.

“Giving this market a unique ‘Day of the Dead’ theme, we can promise visitors carnivalesque pageantry and fun.”

Day of the Dead is an annual Mexican holiday that sees revellers pray for and remember friends and family members who have died and help support their spiritual journey.
