A MUDEFORD pub has been given "a new lease of life" following a £177,000 investment.

The Nelson Tavern has been renovated inside and out by licensees Nicola and Brian Marshall offering a new menu in a bid to boost tourism for the community.

It has been completely transformed with new furniture, decor, toilets and a refurbished bar, the owners says.

Mrs Marshall said: “The Nelson Tavern has had a complete revamp and we are sure locals and visitors will be thrilled with the transformation. Our hope is to create a pub which will serve fantastic food, all locally sourced and quality cask ales.”

Anna Clissold, business development manager for the area, added: “This significant investment demonstrates Admiral Taverns’ commitment to supporting great community pubs across the UK and the dedicated entrepreneurial licensees who run them. In Nicola and Brian we have found two licensees who have a great vision and drive to ensure this pub remains firmly at the heart of the Christchurch community.”

The pub had been closed for the past five weeks and reopened on Friday (Dec 2).
