The launch of the 2016 Poppy Appeal takes place in Ferndown on Saturday. The day starts at 10am, at Penny's Walk, with a children's parade led by the Bournemouth Youth Marching Band. The Young Poppies, who will be marching, will have the chance to enter the best young poppy competition. Businesses and offices in the town centre will be invited to take part in a best-dressed window competition.

The Christchurch Heritage Festival will recreate the 1784 Battle of Mudeford on Saturday and Sunday. The re-enactments will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 12pm and 2pm and will feature black powder weaponry and pyrotechnics. 

New Milton's Forest Arts Centre will be holding a Zombie Walk on Saturday as part of #NewMiltonInfestation. There will be an afternoon of activities from midday, and the walk starts at 4pm from Forest Arts on Old Milton Road. The afternoon activities cost £5 per person, the walk is free. For more details and to reserve a place contact 01425 612 393 or go to forest-arts.co.uk.

Band Sunset Sons are leading a beach clear-up on Sunday, hours before performing a headline show at the 02 Academy Bournemouth. The group will join other volunteers for the Surfers Against Sewage Autumn Beach Clean, which will take place between noon and 2pm on Sunday, October 30. All coastal enthusiasts - from big wave surfers to sandcastle builders - are invited to join the band as part of the clean.

A Halloween Spooktacular takes place at Parley Country Club on October 29. Gates open at 5pm, with the bonfire lit at 7pm and fireworks from 8pm. 
As well as the Spooky Woodland Walk, other attractions include funfair rides, a barbecue and hog roast, fancy dress parade and live music. Full details at parleycountryclub.com.

A new art exhibition ‘Meeting Modernism: 20th Century Art in the Russell-Cotes Collection’ is opening on Saturday.  It will give light to some of the Russell-Cotes’ most popular early 20th century paintings, collected by the first curators, after Annie and Merton Russell-Cotes’ deaths in the 1920s. 
The exhibition runs until April 24 at 10am to 5pm, Tuesday-Sunday. Entry fees apply. 

A spooky Halloween trail is taking place at Hengistbury Head on Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30.The event runs from 10.30am to 3pm, starting from the visitor centre and admission is £2 per child. A Halloween family walk will start at Southbourne Green at 5.15pm on Saturday October 29. It will include a procession through Southbourne Grove, a fire entertainer, spooky story telling, a pumpkin competition and food and drink. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Halloween Cider Festival with music from the Mother Ukers ukelele band and optional fancy dress will be held a the Shelley Theatre in Beechwood Avenue on Friday, October 28, from 6pm. Last entry 10pm. Organised with fetchthedrinks.com.

The Mini BSO will perform a concert for families at the Lighthouse on Saturday. The event, which is part of the Family Arts Festival, will start at 11.15am featuring a range of classical music from the quintet which includes all four families of musical instruments found in the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Admission is £7.85 per person including the booking fee and places can be reserved in advance by going to Lighthousepoole.co.uk or call 01202 280000.
