A BODY found in the sea near Swanage has been confirmed as missing climber Liam Day.

Dorset Police received a concern for welfare after Liam, 26, failed to return home following a day spent in Purbeck on June 15.

His car was located in Durlston Road near to Durlston Country Park and some climbing equipment was found a mile west of Anvil Point.

Police, Coastguard and the police and Coastaguard helicopters were involved in the search to find Liam along the Swanage coastline.

The Dorset coroner's office said his family had been informed and a post-mortem examination is due to be held tomorrow.

His body was spotted at about 11:45am on Tuesday by a passing yacht and was recovered by one of the Swanage lifeboats.

Liam, a medical student, was reported missing by girlfriend Emily Brown. Police believe he went deep water climbing, which involves descending a cliff in a harness and climbing back up unsupported.
