AROUND twenty five traveller vehicles were parked up at a Poole shopping complex's supermarket car park.

The motorhomes, parked neatly within the marked bays, arrived at Tower Park's Tesco supermarket sometime overnight on Thursday.

It is understood the group are on their way to the Dorset Steam Fair, which starts at Tarrant Hinton next week.

Yesterday a Tesco spokesman confirmed: "Notice has been given for the site to be vacated and we’re working with the local police."

Witnesses told the Daily Echo the majority of the motorhomes had vacated the car park before mid-afternoon.

However, staff working nearby said they'd been told they would be leaving as soon as a mechanical fault with one of their vehicles had been fixed.

One shopper said: "Apparently there was a bit of a problem this morning as they were taking up quite a lot of the car park, but they just look like normal camper vans parked up now. There's still plenty of room for customers."

A Borough of Poole spokesman confirmed: "There are eight mobile homes dotted around the car park, they are not all congregated together."
