RESIDENTS in West Howe are urged to have their say over how the estate should be improved.

Teams of volunteers, known as ambassadors, are holding walkabouts around the area to hear the views from residents and what changes they would like as part of a project called Active by Design.

The scheme, which is being led by the Design Council, which has merged with the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, aims to create better outside spaces by improving parks, streets and buildings in the area.

Martha Searle, West Howe’s neighbour development officer, said: “Often communities need a little extra support to make changes to be a little more active and healthier.

“Sometimes these changes are really small, like better access to a park or sometimes really big like building a new park.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for local residents to get involved in how they want the future of their estate to look.”

The area has been divided into zones and ambassadors, who can be spotted walking around the area with their distinctive green and white umbrellas. They have been tasked with collecting the views from residents in each zone.

The feedback given will be discussed at the Imagine West Howe’s Future Festival, which is due to be held at the Henry Brown Youth Centre and West Howe Library on Saturday, November 22 and Sunday 23.

Organisers of the project say the aim is to create a plan for the whole area which can be put forward to access funding.

Ms Searle urged residents to come forward with their ideas, She said: “If you see us walking about with our green and white umbrellas please come and tell us your views or contact me on 07901 701908 or email Martha.searle@bournemouth.gov.uk
