Mrs Meryol Norris, of Sturminster Marshall, would like to return this charming First World War autograph book to the relatives of the owner.

“The book was found by my husband at a property when he was an estate agent in Canford Cliffs,” said Mrs Norris.

The only clue to its ownership is a message that reads: ‘To Dear Hilda from E. Wareham, Christmas 1915’.

Inside are poems, messages and illustrations, some in colour.

Another message written possibly by the same author says: “Make new friends and keep the old, For one is silver and the other gold.”

A couple of cartoons drawn in 1918 by an artist called Savage show the funny side of how soldiers were sometimes badly equipped for the battle field.
