Teenager’s anger after school sends another pupil’s results in post

A TEENAGER has told of her anger and disappointment after her school sent her someone else’s A-level results.

Poole High School student Chantelle Beresford from West Howe felt all the anticipation and anxiety you’d expect as she held what she thought was her results letter in her hand last Friday.

But moments later the 17-year-old’s nerves turned to shock and disappointment when instead of finding that she had received her GCSE results early, she was in fact reading another student’s A-level results.

She told the Echo that the letter had been marked with her address and name, but inside were results for media studies and creative writing – courses she had not taken – on a letter marked with another student’s name.

“I wondered who else had had this done to them as well,” she said. “It wasn’t a nice feeling. I had my fingers crossed and everything, and ended up being angry and disappointed.”

Chantelle’s mum, Kerrie, added: “Has someone else got my daughter’s results was my initial thought as well. What about confidentiality?”

Sue Langdon, Senior Adviser for Children, Young People and Learning at Borough of Poole, said: “We cannot comment on this individual case as schools are responsible for distributing exam results to their students.

“We are working with the school to establish how this error occurred.”

Poole High School is currently closed and nobody from the school could be contacted for a comment.

Kids can get very stressed about exam results as often future subject choices/career prospects hang on them so I can understand that. Also bad that there was no one available at the school to sort it out. Unfortunately, mistakes do happen, perhaps both pupils have similar surnames? But the school should have some sort of contingency planning for sorting out mistakes like this. I hope Chantelle & the other student get their correct results quickly. However, going to the Echo? 'Compo' & 'bad career move' have already been mentioned......

I however think your comment about children ho live in west Howe is unfair as i know many young people who work hard at school and want to achieve good grades so they can go to university and get a good career. My own children have 16 A* and 8 As between them at GCSE and 3A*s and 2As at A level. Both are now at university one studying biochemistry and the other forensics and we live in West Howe!!!

Even a person with autism needs to understand that some things in life do not always go as planned - or indeed as they would like - otherwise they grow up with an unrealistic expectation of life and will be set to spend their whole life being "disappointed" by not getting their own way all the time - and yes I do know what I am talking about as I have an autistic grandson......

I don't get this story. She was stupid to think the results would be sent early. Is that what the disappointment was about? She knew the results were not hers as they were different courses. So from what I can make out she is upset because she had to wait until the GCSE results day. A date she had already been given in advance. Why is she doing GCSEs at 17? Repeats? If so she should already know how the system works. Why is she at Poole High when she lives in West Howe? Biggest waste of my last 5 minutes reading this rubbish!

There is some good news here. The poor person who has received Chantelle's results, after a shock at the poor grade, and thinking it is just a simple mistake and it would be better NOT to run to the Ohec, will now receive correct results with better grades, and will live happily ever after.

The conception rate in the UK for teens between the ages of 15-17 is 27.9 conceptions per 1,000 women. So your assertion that 'she is not a teen mum like most her age' is an melodramatic exaggeration. Only a slight one mind!

What about confidentiality? asks Chantelle’s mum.

Pfft. Back when I did my O-levels the results were all posted on the school notice board - whether you'd passed them all, or turned yourself into the school dummy by failing them all. You only got them by going into school to find out how you - and all your friends and enemies - had done.

IMHO any kid who doesn't want to share their results with all their friends immediately doesn't expect much of themselves.
