Twin Sails bridge closure for "minor modification" postponed

First published in News

A PLANNED closure of Poole's Twin Sails Bridge on Wednesday night has been postponed.

Borough of Poole said the overnight closure for a “minor modification” will take place in future but a date has not been set.

This is to complete a piece of work that could not be done when the bridge was closed for a week in April for maintenance.

Last Thursday a pressure imbalance in the hydraulic system led to the bridge leaves being stuck part way open. A specialist contractor was brought in to resolve the issue.

The fault is being referred to the manufacturer of the components for further investigation. The specialist contractor attended the site at no cost to the authority

It takes a special contractor to be brave enough to become associated with such a pile of pointless junk!

I really can't imagine how it won an award for design when it still continues to break down so regularly - unless it was the dummy prize? Which Cllrs were involved in this fiasco? I know Cllr Dion was but there must be others?

Why is everyone so hellbent on knocking this bridge? I use it twice a day for work and rarely encounter problems. I do remember long, miserable queues when we only had one crossing and the long and costly detour when the old bridge was closed for a whole month for renovations about 10yrs ago.

I suggest that Borough of Poole will close the bridge about 10.15 -10.30 on Thursday evening - just as the fireworks finish on Poole Quay!
