ONE person has suffered serious internal injuries after a crash on the A350 in North Dorset.

The collision took place between a car and a box van. Six people are involved.

The A350 was closed until lunchtime but has now fully reopened, a spokesperson for Dorset Police said.

Diversions have been put on at the A357 Blandford to Sherborne and A30 Sherborne to Shaftesbury in both directions.

Sergeant Dave Stroud from Dorset Police's traffic unit said: "At approximately 7am two vehicles were involved in a serious injury collision on the A350 at Steepleton bends.

"It would appear that a white Ford Fiesta travelling north on the A350 out of the county has lost control on the left hand bend and collided head on with a large goods vehicle."

Four young men were travelling in the Ford Fiesta and two men were in the lorry.

Sgt Stroud said four people had suffered slight injuries with two people from the car taken to hospital with more serious injuries.

Initally a force spokesperson said both the rear passengers in the car were seriously injured, including one who has reportedly suffered internal injuries.

The ambulance service later said one person had serious stomach injuries.

They were all taken to Dorset County Hospital.

The road is closed between Durweston Bridge and Iwerne Minster.

Both the Mercedes box van and the Ford Fiesta are still on the scene.

Dorset Fire and Rescue were also called to the scene.

Dorset Police were called by the ambulance service at 7am.

The police helicopter was put on standby to convey casualties to hospital but was not needed.

The fire service tweeted just before 7.30am this morning -
